The showing of Ice Cold In Alex will be be introduced by historian and conflict archaeologist Andy Brockman, who will describe the background to making of the film and of one of its stars, Sylvia Syms, who came from Woolwich and who died earlier this year.
Note that the A rating was what the BBFC used in the 1950s to indicate films that were generally suitable for an adult audience. There is also a slightly shorter PG version of the film which contains the following content warning:
Violence: Following an attack from a German patrol, a woman is shot in the stomach and mortally wounded; blood is briefly visible on her hands as she clutches her wound, although there is no sight of the injury.
Threat and horror: There are scenes of threat when the British are threatened by armed Germans. A man also becomes stuck in quicksand.
Language: There are uses of mild bad language (‘bloody hell’).
